In Private75 I called the same Corner blitz play, Nickel 3-3-5 CB1 CB2 blitz, a total of 28 times in 1 game against Fort Worth.

I selected 6 Corner Blitz plays in my playbook for the game.

The next corner blitz play that was called the most in that game.. 6

https://private75.myfootballnow.com/log/534

This frustrated me slightly as there seemed to be hardly any variety of playcalling in this game by my defense.

Agreed, I do not like the play calling matrix as it is currently set up at all.

Were the other corner blitzes in the Nickel package? The first decision is for your defense to match the offense's personnel, if you have a heavy corner blitz setting but only one corner blitz in a nickel package, but your opponent comes out with 3 WRs frequently, you'll hit your nickel corner blitz a high amount. I wonder if your opponent had a large usage of the 3WR set, forcing you to play the Nickel more than you expected. (I haven't looked at the game or your gameplan, I'm just speculating)

I had both 3-3-5 Nickel plays active in my gameplan, with the other 3-3-5 play being called only 6 times.

I believe he did throw out quite a bit of 3 receiver sets.

Yes.. but I am assuming you had LBS set to zone more often as the other play called less had the LBS under blitz 1.

Still, purely assumption , but IDK what is a bug and what is design anymore. As I bet you set the DB setting for that senerio but did not change the LB also and set it through all the senerios you thought it would.

IDK if before it acted this way....as I though I only had to copy once for both LB/db settings to go to all the senerios , but now under this gameplan screen I make sure to copy both separately if needed. I could swear it was like that before but it wasn't until I noticed plays not transferring like what I think happened here....

Its funny cause this seems new, but most of the time I use the same defensive sets for all senerios . ...alot of randomness is allowed in my plan, but when I try to isolate a play or two I am finding this having to set both lb and dbs or I get what happened to you.

Still, if you think of it...two plays to match 30 snaps. The whole game is going this way in order to match formations . I would say a minimum of five plays would be needed to match any team going heavy in one set.

Its going to be tough to match up with out getting penalized as the defense gets to pick only 30 plays compared to the offense. I don't like any of it one bit.

You better not over call any play.

Yeah I never really touch the Linebackers screen anymore. Too time consuming nowadays.

I do agree that it is unfortunate being able to select only 30 plays compared to the offenses 40, especially since defensive plays are now chosen based on the offenses formation. Basically it means if a team runs a heavy pass scheme and comes out with 3 or 4 receivers nearly every play, I would have to counter it by using dime and nickel formations.

But say if I only have 1 nickel play active and the offense brings out a constant formation, I'm the one with the disadvantage because I only have 1 defensive play that will be overused (which I hate overusing plays) against a specific type of formation.

My bigger concern is that there are just not enough defensive or offensive plays. The playbook that is m2m heavy has just as many m2m plays as one that is zone heavy, etc.

And not enough plays that "work" ...

Why not make every play in the MFN universe available for every team? To give relevance to the coaches' philosophy, perhaps your players would learn the coaches' favored plays more quickly.
