Volatility

So I have a pretty good grasp of volatility but what I am curious about rookie stats, I'll use a WR for an example. So lets say the WR has 6/18 pass catching and his volatility is 92, does that mean that he could potentially boom to like 50 pass catching but has a high risk of busting? I hope that makes sense.

Open to correction, but no. My understanding is that vol is NOT part of his in-game performances. Vol is very much intended to kick in during the off season to rise/fall a players attributes.

Happy to be corrected of course.

Thanks! I saw that player's future rating can go up over some time but was just curious

Vol plays no part AFAIK into whether the player booms or busts. It helps/does determine the amount of the boom or bust. So a player with 92 vol and gets the later round bonus to skills could boom from 6/18 pass catching to eventually 100/100 whereas a player with 40 vol might only boom to 50/50 (made up numbers I don't have any data on how much you can actually expect from vol atm.) Now given how low he is starting it will take several seasons and he still might not ever get to his ceiling but it can happen.

This guy, https://xfl.myfootballnow.com/player/12843, started from 28/50 pass accuracy in the 2046 preseason, improved to 49/70 by the next preseason, and then 66/87 the following preseason in 2048 before I quit tracking his improvement on his player card. My current thoughts are these late round guys with 100 vol can boom to all 100s in skills but they need a high enough starting point and a large enough gap between their current and future value. A player can reach his future value and the future value will still increase, my peanut brains just feels that a larger gap allows more growth but this guy, https://xfl.myfootballnow.com/player/13684, capped out his M2M his first two seasons at 77 and 83 before a gap created on its own and now he's a 93/100

A player will either boom or bust - volatility plays no part in that.

A high volatility means that, if a player booms or busts, the effect of that boom / bust will be greater.

so is 40-60 best (given min 0 and max 100)?
I know i might want a high vol player late rounds, lower vol early rounds, but in any round, best player on the board - should I roll with the guy at 40-60 vol rounds 3-6 come the draft or reach for the boom/bust-ville of 60+ vol round 3 and after?

Keeping in mind its mid 4th and after picks that are cutable post T/C without negative next year cap impacts?
I feel like Fritzy., asking a follow up question to a question unanswered.
EDIT (S- U- C- K) it, back row. :P

Pretty much you just need to ask at this vols likely bust point would this player still be useful? How useful is he if he booms? A player who has 30 vol but won't be very useful if they bust a little is no different than a 100 vol in most cases for busts. They both are no longer useful but the higher vol has way more upside. It will depend on your roster and if you will still be able to use him if he busts. That's at any point in the draft.

Speed never busts so I'm more likely to take chances with fast players.

I just assume every player will bust between -1 & -5 and decide if he would be useful after a bust.

If he booms....Great but unless he bust -6 or worse...I'm usually OK.

I always take the best player available regardless of vol since I rarely have a top 10 pick but a top 10 pick should be the best available with a low vol unless the difference in talent between a low vol and high vol is drastically different.

Remember a 0 vol player can still bust -10 so it's never a guarantee anyway.

And like Greg said, speed, intelligence, strength, acceleration and discipline never bust so taking a high vol player with elite physically attributes is a good choice.
